The Silk Road Review is a literary and arts journal founded and run by students at Ashgabat International School in Turkmenistan. We accept submissions and feature work from high school students around the world.We will be open for submissions starting on 10/10/2025.

ISSUE 1, Winter


Our first issue will be released in Winter. February 14, 2026.The Silk Road Review accepts submissions from high school students around the world, of all media types, including fiction, poetry, art, videos, and hybrid work. We will begin accepting submissions on OCT 10, 2025 to DEC 10, 2025. Please adhere to the following guidelines to submit your work for consideration. Please send your submissions early, to ensure you do not miss the deadline!Please include your name, which school you are attending, and your grade level.Email all submissions to [email protected]~Poetry- Please submit between 1-5 poems. Your poems should be attached as a .docx or .pdf file with each poem on a new page, or pasted directly into the body of the email. We are happy to look at visual poetry or poetry with special formatting.Fiction/Creative Non-Fiction- Please submit no more than 10 pages of fiction or creative nonfiction. These can be short stories, flash fiction, a novel excerpt, personal essays, or other types of prose. Your work should be attached as a .docx or .pdf file, or pasted directly into the body of the email.Visual Art- Please submit between 1-5 pieces of artwork. We accept art including paintings, sketches, collage, digital art, photography, sculpture. ABSOLUTELY NO AI ART IS ALLOWED OR ACCEPTED. The art should be attached as .pdf, .jpeg, .png files or pasted directly into the body of the email.Hybrid/Mixed Media- Please submit 1-3 pieces of mixed media or hybrid work. This can include videos/films, dances, performances, spoken word poetry, original music, games, etc. You can upload your hybrid or mixed media in any file format, or paste links to the work into the body of the email.All students whose work is selected for publication will be announced January 5, 2025 and if your work is selected, you will receive an email confirmation.We do not accept submissions that include generative AI in any capacity. If it is discovered that you used AI for your writing or art, your submission will be rejected.

Work that is featured in The Silk Road Review is considered professionally published work. You can add this to your resume/CV, which is extremely impressive to potential universities and employers. This proves that you are dedicated to the craft of writing
Your individual teachers may also provide credits or grades for a unit if you submit to the journal. Please check in with your teachers!What happens if I am accepted?
If you are accepted, your work will be featured in an issue of our online magazine and will be able to be seen and read by the general public! You will officially be a published writer :)
Who decides on the work that will be featured?
All the pieces are read by the Creative Writing and AP English classes at Ashgabat International School. The work is read anonymously. If your work is selected to move to the next round, the editor for your genre (poetry, fiction, art, etc) will review and make the final decision.
How many pieces are featured per issue?
About 15 pieces total.
How many issues do you publish per year?
We publish 2 issues per year, Winter and Spring.
Can I use a fake name?
Yes, of course. Please let us know what you would like your pseudonym to be.
